Sturgeon Electric Earns Industry Recognition with Awards for Two Unprecedented Projects in Colorado

Sturgeon Electric Company, Inc. (Sturgeon Electric) was awarded and recognized by Associated General Contractors (AGC) – Award for Construction Excellence (ACE) and Engineering News Record (ENR) Mountain States – Best Regional Projects 2016 for performance on two unprecedented projects: Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnels – Fixed Fire Suppression System (EJMT) and US-HWY 36 Managed Lanes Project (US-HWY 36).

Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnels – Fixed Fire Suppression System

The Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnels – Fixed Fire Suppression System (EJMT) was the first installation of its type in the United States and was closely observed through the eyes of tunnel and transportation authorities and engineering firms throughout the world. The electrical scope of work on the project included power and control for the Fixed Fire Suppression System’s detection, notification, and CCTV system, mechanical systems power and control, and new 350 kW generator.

The number of projects submitted for AGC’s ACE award consideration set a new record this year and the EJMT project was selected among nine strong competitors in its category.

The US Highway 36 Managed Lanes Project was the largest Colorado transportation construction project in 2015 and the first of its type in the state. Sturgeon Electric was also one of the first electrical contractors in country to deliver an intelligent highway system with numerous innovations. The scope of work included reallocation of existing traffic signalization to accommodate lane and shoulder expansion, as well as new roadway overhead and underground infrastructure. This included intelligent signage, controls, power, communications, lighting, structure installation and programming.

Category: Best Building Project Over $10 Million, Specialty Contractor

Notably, US-HWY 36 was the first project ever submitted by the Sturgeon Electric Transportation group and was awarded silver within the largest dollar category (over $10M) among five competitors.
