Program’s First Group of Honorees Recognized at NECA Convention in Seattle in October
MYR Group Inc. (MYR Group) subsidiary Sturgeon Electric Company, Inc. (Sturgeon Electric) was recently recognized by the National Electrical Contractors Association with a NECA Project Excellence Award in the Industrial category for the Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnels Fixed Fire Suppression System Project completed in 2016 for the Colorado Department of Transportation. Projects were judged and awarded based on aesthetics, application, difficulty, innovation and originality.
NECA established the Project Excellence Award in 2017 to showcase the exceptional work that has been performed by its members throughout the country. Sturgeon Electric was recognized along with this year’s other winners during NECA’s annual convention on October 9 in Seattle, Washington.
The Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial Tunnels – Fixed Fire Suppression System (EJMT) was the first installation of its type in the United States and was closely observed through the eyes of tunnel and transportation authorities and engineering firms throughout the world. The electrical scope of work on the project included power and control for the Fixed Fire Suppression System’s detection, notification, and CCTV system, mechanical systems power and control, and new 350 kW generator.

The Project also received a 2016 Gold ACE Award from the Associated General Contractors of Colorado in the Best Building Project $2-$6 Million Specialty Contractor Category, as well as an award for the Best Specialty Construction Project and the Award of Merit for Excellence in Safety in 2016 from Engineering News Record (ENR) Mountain States Best Regional Projects.
