Great Southwestern Construction shares knowledge about robotic arms used in energized work with EC&M Magazine

The use of collaborative robots or “cobots” in construction is on the rise according to EC&M magazine. In their October 2025 edition, they shared a number of ways cobots are helping increase productivity and safety on job sites and cited several companies including MYR Group subsidiary Great Southwestern Construction.
Tim Kridel wrote that “levels of autonomy run the gamut,” for cobots. “Some are like apprentices who don’t need continuous, direct supervision, while others are closer to forklifts, not budging without a human at the controls.”
Great Southwestern Construction’s Director of Training Billy Walsh told EC&M about the LineWise Triple Line Lifters they use on energized transmission work.
“It allows us to take all the energized conductors and keep it in a very controlled setting. The linemen do it all with remote control from 100 feet in the air. They can use it in a horizontal or a vertical setting – whatever that setup requires,” Walsh explained.
He also pointed out the safety benefits of the tool in minimizing repetitive strain type injuries.
