As lead electrical contractor for the LRT expansion, Western Pacific handles electrical construction for the rail line substations and train control and catenary systems. In 2021, crews completed construction on the first phase, the Edmonton Valley Line Southeast, which runs 13 kilometers from Downtown Edmonton to Mill Woods and includes 11 street-level stops. The LRT trains have been incorporated into low-floor type vehicles, they offer the advantages of minimal infrastructure to roads and curbs and step-free boarding access and allow smaller-scale buildings to be spaced closer.
A significant investment for the city, the expansion project is designed to promote the development of a modern, globally competitive system, connecting city hot spots, and enhancing their accessibility from rural communities.
