An integral part of MMC’s $512 million, five-year, multi-phased campus improvement and expansion plan, this project added two stories and 64 oncology rooms to the existing hospital and a cantilevered double helipad was relocated above the new floors to improve access to the trauma center and emergency department. Three levels were also added to the visitor parking garage, creating 225 new parking spaces. The MMC remained fully operational during construction.
A member of the Turner Construction project team, E.S. Boulos crews performed the electrical construction for the facility’s core and shell, electrical fit-out, advanced lighting and lighting control, teledata and networking, fire alarm, security, and nurse call and patient locator systems. The team used building information modeling (BIM), lean construction principles, and multi-trade prefabrication throughout planning, design, and construction phases. The project opened to new patients in December 2019 as scheduled.
